In 1017 the work on on building an"abbey" started. Three crypts were built to suport the church which would be on the spike of the rock.
The crypts were built to the North, East, and south of the rock. The Nave to the west was placed over the existing chapel which became Notre dame sous terre (Our lady under ground)
